Meet Coach Bethany — she spent most mornings growing up as the asian household chubby kid staring at the mirror picking apart every perceived flaw and inch of her body. Living a huge part of her life believing that her body was something she needed to fix.
What she didn’t expect was for fitness to eventually change much more than her body. What started as a way to get smaller became a way to get stronger. Strength training led her to fall in love with powerlifting and endurance training, where she continues to train and compete in. She currently competes in HYROX events and is working towards an Ironman 70.3, hoping that her journey can be a small testament to women around her to chase strength and a bigger life.
Along the way, Bethany realised that the more she invested in her body, the more life she was able to live. She could lift things she once thought were impossible, experience so much more and simply feel at home in her own skin. She no longer sees training as a way to constantly fix how she looks but something that gives her more freedom in life.
That is what eventually led her to coaching. She knows what it feels like to walk into a gym with absolutely no idea what you’re doing, feel intimidated by everyone around you, and walk out feeling worse about yourself than when you came in.
She wants her clients to feel comfortable to start exactly where they are. She’ll push you when she knows you have more in you, and she doesn’t believe you need to be made to feel small in order to improve. Her job, in her eyes, is to help you understand your body better, lift heavier and show you what it is capable of. And hopefully, somewhere along the way, you’ll realise that you were capable of much more than you thought and living more than what you thought was for you.
