At 51 years old, Winnie had struggled with weight and fitness challenges for years. Winnie’s battle with weight began after the birth of her first child. “My weight gain was from 52kg to 63kg. After delivering, I was stuck at 60kg and that made me upset,” Winnie recalls. She tried various methods to slim down, including treatments at a weight loss clinic. “I managed to lose some weight from the treatment, but it didn’t last. I gained the weight back and felt very frustrated as it felt like a waste of money, time, and my hopes.”
The key issue, as Winnie later realized, was that these treatments didn’t educate her on the importance of lifestyle factors in maintaining weight loss. Without a sustainable approach, the weight inevitably returned.
When Winnie started training with Coach Han Ming at MOVE, everything changed. Han Ming quickly identified that her biggest challenge was her diet. “The biggest challenge in her journey was her diet. I had to find a sustainable method to prevent relapse and encourage adherence and enjoyment as she learned to improve her habits with education,” Han Ming explains.
He emphasized the importance of a holistic approach, focusing not just on weight loss but also on improving overall quality of life. “I remind her about quality of life, and to love other benefits of fitness too, other than just weight loss,” Han Ming shares.
Over the course of a year, Winnie made significant progress. “I am very proud that I have been getting stronger,” she says. Before joining MOVE, Winnie struggled with weak legs and frequent lower back pain, necessitating regular visits to her therapist. Now, she no longer needs those visits. “I have lost 7-8 kg and achieved so much strength and ability through my training with Han Ming. I have fallen in love with the process of change and getting stronger.”
Winnie attributes her success to the supportive and considerate coaching style of Han Ming. “He is the perfect coach for me, coaching me to change with care and consideration to how I feel. I never felt stressed and was inspired to change my lifestyle sustainably,” she notes.
