‘Life begins at 50’, the old saying goes – but for Sarah it really has.
Watch Sarah’s inspiring journey with MOVE:
Sarah was diagnosed with the early stage of Osteoporosis which is Osteopenia in her late forties.
“At first I kinda thought:’ Oh really, me? As I did a little bit of research I’m like oh that actually happens now.”
Sarah’s bone density rate was relatively lower than people who are around her age. Major fractures on bones, sprains on joints would happen easily if she accidentally fall and those wouldn’t recover as fast as normal people.
“As I am mindful of getting older, it’s a lot easier to hurt yourself when your bones are that much more brittle.”
“I was kind of my wake-up call into I am getting older and lead to a thought – I need to do something about it.”
“I need to keep my body healthy and fit so that I am able to do things with my family. I don’t have to be so selective about the activities. If my family want to go hiking, I want to be able to go with them, If they want to visit family in the summer, I want to be able to join in”
“My doctor has suggested for me to try out strength training before I take any medicine, that’s still a chance for me to reverse this situation”
Despite not lifting weights at all in her life, she came to MOVE to start a safe and progressive transformation journey that would help her achieve the fundamental lifestyle change she was after.
The results of her transformation have been incredible – Coach May Ooi has helped her reverse Osteopenia and gained renewed hope.
“At first I doubted if strength training could really help me, but Coach May and I have worked it out and proved that I can do it.”
“Coach May challenged me a lot during this journey, but in a way that makes me feel comfortable”
“She has helped me understand how my joints work, how my muscles work and how my body is connected, always trying new things that kept my training consistent for 5 years.”
The transformation Sarah has undergone is inspirational. It didn’t happen overnight, and it wasn’t always easy, but she had a partner and trusted coach in MOVE with her every step of the way.
It’s much easier for Sarah to play with children in the playground as a kindergarten teacher and go for any outdoor activities with her family now with a fitter body.
“As a mother, a sister, a wife – all those hats that we wear, I think that age is certainly something that you don’t necessarily think of until it’s right in front of you.”
“When I kind of had that wake-up call of I need to start to take care of myself, because the best way that I can take of my family is through taking care of myself”
